Research Areas
My research is primarily in the area of natural language processing. I often combine corpus linguistics with computational linguistics to make applications that analyze and visualize language for authorship analysis or language learning.
Current Projects
My current research projects include:
- Cross-modality and cross-genre authorship analysis
- Mathematical foundations of authorship analysis
- Multi-agentic explainable authorship analysis
- Visualizing pronunciation to help learners read English aloud
- Biosignal adaptive learning in extended reality
- Computerised dynamic assessment for language learning
Publications
Check out the publications tab to see which research papers are under review, in press or published.
Presentations
I am keen to participate in conferences in the areas of authorship analysis, academic and scientific writing, corpus and computational linguistics, applied linguistics, and educational technology. Given the obvious limitations of time, funding and resources, I focus on conferences that are directly related to my current research projects. I have delivered plenaries, keynotes and invited talks at conferences in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India. I stopped keeping track on my presentations once I had exceeded 200.
Grants
Successful researchers need ability, grit, a dash of luck and a plentiful supply of funds. I have grit and have been rather successful at drawing down funding as evidenced on my Grants page. Ability and luck, however, are still in short supply.
Graduate Opportunities
I am always looking for motivated graduate students interested in NLP, computational linguistics, or educational technology. If you're interested in pursuing a PhD or Master's degree in these areas, please check out my supervision tab.
Citizenship
Beyond research and teaching, I contribute to the academic community through peer review, journal editing, and conference organisation, as well as through committee service and laboratory direction within the university. See my citizenship page for more detail.
